-Clothing pre-sort (screen incoming clothing and sort it into categories)
-Departmental work (evaluate, price and display merchandise)
-Store floor workers (take care of out-of-place merchandise, clear out dressing rooms,
help keep shelves and racks neat)
-Light cleaning (dust display areas, clean counters/cupboards in break room)
-Cashiers and assistants (work at the front cash registers)
-Office help (receptionist, telephone skills, scheduling, data entry)
-Voucher processing (helping qualified clients receive household goods at no cost)
-Warehouse assistants (move furniture and bins of merchandise, help customers)
-Professional expertise (provide marketing, programming, building, financial or other
assistance as needed.)
Different categories of merchandise we handle include:
Clothing, shoes, smart shoppe (fashion clothing), accessories (purses, belts, backpacks, duffle bags),
housewares, baskets, linens, collectibles (jewelry, antiques, china, crystal, etc.), furniture, lamps,
artwork/frames, books, office supplies, video/music, computers, small electronics, holiday, crafts,
personal supplies (cosmetics, hair supplies, medical aids), luggage, toys, bikes/sporting goods, outdoor supplies (grills, gardening),
hardware, or any other department you might create!
Additionally, if you need to fill a requirement for community service, perhaps for a civic or social
group, confirmation or church groups, or court-ordered, we welcome those "short term" volunteers as well!
We will keep records for you and provide you with an official print out of your hours completed
when requested.
Volunteer Schedules
A few volunteer positions at St. Vincent de Paul require a set schedule - serving as office receptionist or being a store
cashier, for example. For those positions, we like a four-hour commitment. But most volunteers,
after they've found a spot they can fill, are able to set their own schedules. Some come in the same time each week.
Others come in when their schedules allow.
